OH MY GOURD I LOVE OCTOBER!! 🧡 I seriously LOVE OH MY GOURD I LOVE OCTOBER!! 🧡 I seriously LOVE the holiday season but as much as I love this time of year it’s also sadly the time of year where we produce the most waste… Did you know that between Halloween and New Years Americans throw away 25% more trash. This amounts to an extra 25 million tons of garbage, and decorations account for a lot of this. And I can’t stress this enough! You can DONATE decorations or save them in a box for next year. When purging toys to get ready for Christmas DONATE, DON’T THROW AWAY! Really think about the waste your producing in the next couple months. For decorations you can stick to natural materials, like tree branches, dried flowers, pumpkins, and gourds, which can be composted afterward. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🧡A little bit about my eco friendly Halloween set up.🧡 I wait till Christmas to really go all out but I try to theme the play room for each holiday without creating more waste. Halloween books are from my library, thrift stores, and books saved from last year. A couple of these books had sound buttons. (Those don’t seem to last long around my house🤦🏼‍♀️) Instead of throwing the perfectly good book away we just pretend the sounds now. One was also ripped by my toddler today and she’s going to help fix it tomorrow. I’m not only teaching her responsibility for herself by doing this but for the world around us. I always thrift shop for dress up stuff around this time of year! The baby dolls are dressed in my youngest daughters costumes from last year.
